Metal Craft Machining Invests in 5-Axis UMC-750 from HAAS

Release Date:

[March 15, 2021: Southbridge, MA] Metal Craft Machining and Epec Engineered Technologies purchased and installed a 5-axis UMC-750 Milling Center from HAAS, the leader in CNC equipment. This piece of equipment is perfect for complex parts with its generous travels and 5-axis capabilities and will allow us to reduce setups and part handling, while increasing feature-to-feature accuracy.

These universal machining centers are cost-effective solutions for 3+2 machining and simultaneous 5-axis machining. While we have always been able to provide 5-axis machining services using our 3- and 4-axis machines, the cost of doing multiple setups would be too costly for our customers.

Mark Stanley, General Manager at Metal Craft Machining stated: “Our goal has always been to increase our capabilities for our customers as well as finding ways to be more competitive in the marketplace. This investment in the UMC-750 is the first of many that we will make in our equipment set, and you can get a quick glimpse of a video (UMC-750SS Cutting Demo - Haas Automation, Inc. - YouTube) that best shows the tremendous capabilities of this equipment.”

Along with this, Metal Craft also invested in NX CAD/CAM/CMM software from Siemens, which is world-class and allows an operator to program any job using one program and it will create precisely controlled 5-axis tool paths to effectively machine complex geometries. Using application-specific capabilities, we can dramatically reduce programming time and create smart, collision-free cutting operations. This enables the use of consistent 3D models, data, and processes to seamlessly connect planning and shop floor operations with a digital thread. And because the new HAAS 750 has integrated inspection capabilities, the CMM capabilities of the NX software we can run consistent and accurate in-process inspection and measured data analysis of manufactured parts.

Epec’s CEO Ed McMahon added: “We will continue to invest for the long term in the highest technology equipment and processes, along with our experienced machinist team, which allows us to provide customers with quicker lead times for more complex parts with ITAR compliant manufacturing capabilities.”
